Quartz worktops are made from engineered stone, a man-made material with many of the properties of natural rock. Particles of quartz and other minerals are bonded with a plastic resin to create a hard, non-porous composite which machines and polishes like granite.
Because the “ingredients” can be carefully selected, other minerals, glass, mirror and metal can be added, and dyes injected with the resin, a vast range of colour and appearance can be achieved. Quartz manufacturers are constantly developing new products, with some materials having a strongly synthetic appearance, and others being very beautifully made copies of natural stone.
In terms of the obviously man-made look, perhaps the best-known would be the very pure colours, and especially whites like our own Affordable White, and the sparkly mirror flecked quartz, like Silestone Blanco Stellar
kitchen with a Quartz worktop
Just like the grey quartz worktops, our white quartz worktops give an excellent finish to any kitchen. When paired with neutral and pastel coloured kitchens, they keep the kitchen subtle, giving a natural flow to the kitchen with minimal statement impact. This is an ideal look for those who are looking to pursue a more traditional, low impact kitchen to keep retain light and maximise the feel of spaciousness.
Alternatively, for those looking to achieve a more prominent “stand out" look in their kitchen, it's common to pair a white / cream quartz worktop with a darker cabinet to achieve a strong contrast look. This is a prime opportunity to really create a feature worktop to complete the kitchen and become the statement centerpiece.
